The IET International Conference on Sustainable Power Generation and Supply (SUPERGEN), which was organized by Zhejiang University, China, and the Queen’s University of Belfast, UK, took place in Hangzhou, China, this September 8th, 9th 2012. It attracted more than 100 scholars and students from China, South Korea, UK and other parts of the world. The conference aimed to provide a professional forum for engineers and research scientists and the opportunity to present their work in the area.

Prof Conejo (Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, IEEE Fellow) was delivering keynote speech.

Prof Wang Haifeng from Queen’s University of Belfast, UK and Prof Gan Deqiang from EE College of Zhejiang University co-chaired the conference. Also attending the conference were renowned scholars and experts, Prof Ju Ping (Vice President of Hohai University), Prof Conejo (Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and IEEE Fellow), Dr Xue Feng (Deputy Manager of Power System Stability Control Department of CEPRI), Prof Infield (University of Strathclyde, UK) and Prof Crossley (University of Manchester), etc. The conference covered such areas as power network technology, distributed power generation systems, renewable power, energy storage, power electronics, clean power generation, power and energy infrastructure, and smart grids.

Prof Gan chaired the opening ceremony on Sept 8, and it was followed by three keynote speeches. As the world-renowned leading experts, Prof Ju Ping, Prof Conejo and Dr Xuefeng presented their view respectively in focus of development and prospects of smart grid, research and application of wind energy in power system, and power system security defense techniques.

The conference consisted of two parallel sessions, covering topics of power network technology, distributed power generation systems, clean power generation; power and energy infrastructure, energy storage, renewable power, and Power Electronics. The enthusiastic involvement from attendees added to the heated discussion with topics brought forward by presenters.
