Signing Ceremony of Wind Power Research and Development Center Concluded

EE people witnessed on Jan 16, 2017 this Tuesday the signing ceremony of Wind Power Research and Development Center between EE College of Zhejiang University (ZJU-EE) and Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd (Shanghai Electric). Heads from both sides attended the ceremony, including Mr Chen Ganjin, vice president of Shanghai Electric, and Prof Song Yonghua, executive vice president of Zhejiang University. Prof Sheng Kuang, vice dean of EE College, chaired the ceremony.

The signing ceremony of Wind Power Research and Development Center was held on Jan 16, 2017.

As energy security, ecological environment, climate change and other issues become increasingly prominent worldwide, the international community has reached consensus to accelerate developing renewable energy. Wind power, as the most extensively applied renewable energy power generation, has been made a major way to promote energy transformation. It offers important means for China to advance further on energy production and consumption revolution, and at the same time, to strengthen air pollution prevention in the country. Faced with new challenges followed by energy development, ZJU-EE intends to promote collabroations with renowned industrial partners on wind power innovation and its technological progress.

There has been a long and stable cooperation between ZJU-EE and Shanghai Electric, its relationship can be traced back to early 1950s when the two sides succeeded in inventing jointly the Double Water Inner-cooled Electrical Generator, a milestone for the electric industry in the world of the day.

Prof Song Yonghua, the executive vice president of Zhejang University, addressed in his speech that Zhejiang University, in line with the university motto “Seeking truth and pursuing innovation”, would focus on enery issues with its high sense of mission to strengthen collaboration with Shanghai Electric. The two sides will take the opportunity to work together on core technologies of wind power. It will hopefully enable Shanghai Electric with independent innovation capability and core competitiveness, to realize a leapfrog development in areas of wind power in the years to come.
