Introduction

Established in 1920, College of Electrical Engineering (CEE), with Department of Electrical Engineering as its predecessor, was one of the earliest founded departments of such kind in China.

The College, located at Yuquan campus of Zhejiang University, comprises of Dept. of Electrical Engineering, Dept. of System Science and Engineering, Dept. of Applied Electronics, and Education Center of Electrical and Electronics Technology as well. There are 4 undergraduate programs in the College, Electrical Engineering and its Automation, Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, and System Science and Engineering. In respect of graduate education, four first-level disciplines are currently available, Electrical Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, System Science, and Electronic Science and Technology. Of them, Electrical Engineering is among the first group to be enlisted as the national first-level key disciplines, and is included in the national key projects such as Project 211 and Project 985.

The College has so far cultivated large quantities of qualified talents, conferring a total of 17099 bachelor degrees, 2922 master’s degrees and 561 doctoral degrees. There are also 98 post-doctoral researchers having finished their study in the College. In addition, 21 Members of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering have either studied or worked in the College. Today, the College has enrolled a total of 1535 registered full-time undergraduate students,  1569 master’s students (925 students of M. Eng are included), 342 doctoral students, and 34 postdoctoral researchers.

The College is rich of resources both in teaching and research. Among the 179 faculty and staff members, there are 44 professors, 60 associate professors and associate research fellows, 14 senior engineers and senior experimentalists. It is empowered with not only the famous senior professors such as Professor Wang Yousheng, one of the earliest members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Han Zhenxiang, member of Chinese Academy of Science and the ex-president of Zhejiang University, but also young and middle-aged academic elites like  like Professor Song Yonghua, currently vice president of Zhejiang University, vice-president of Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, and fellow IEEE, Professor Yan Xiaolang who has won the honor of National Young Specialist for Special Contribution and is now the Director of Strategic Expert Committee for VLSI Design of China State Hi-Tech Program (863 Program). Other faculty members such as Prof Xu Dehong (Member of Electrical Discipline Board, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council), Prof He Xiangning (Fellow IEEE)£¨Prof Sheng Kuang (Cheung Kong Chair Professor under the Cheung Kong Scholars Program), Prof Gan Deqiang (Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University ), and Prof Ye Xudong ( recipient of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists), are making contributions with efforts both in teaching and research.

In addition to its sustainable development in scientific research with joint efforts from faculties of CEE, the College enjoys frequent academic exchange and cooperation with international institutions. It has hosted a number of international and national academic conferences, such as NFSI & ICFBI 2007, SPEED’08, CTATEE, National Doctoral Forum (Energy Science and Technology), Electrical and Electronic Curriculum Presentation Forum in 2009, Doctoral Forum of UK-China on Smart Grid (2010),  The Second Flagship Seminar of FRENS (2010), 21st IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (2012) , The IET International Conference on Sustainable Power Generation and Supply (SUPERGEN 2012), The 9th Symposium on Linear Drives for Industry Application (LDIA2013), The Sixth International Conference on Advanced Computational Intelligence (ICACI2013) , The 17th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS2014), and The Second Zhejiang -Imperial College London (ICL) Workshop on Smart Energy Network and Storage (2015). Nourished with gradually improving institutions and facilities, today’s College consists of 9 institutes, 1 Electrical and Electronic Engineering Experimental Education Center for university students, 1 teaching experimental platform for college faculties and students, together with the establishment of other professional institutions like National Key Laboratory of Power Electronics, National Engineering Center for Applied Power Electronics, State Experimental Education Demo Center, National Training Base for Integrated Circuits, and National Engnieering Centre for Small & Special Precision Motors - Zhejiang University Laboratory.
