Department of System Science and Engineering

Department of System Science and Engineering covers two disciplines - system analysis and integration, and control theory and control engineering. System analysis and integration is the provincial key discipline, ranking fourth in the national assessment of first-level disciplines in 2004. While control theory and control engineering is the successor of the specialty of industrial automation which was set up in 1958. There are two institutes attached to the department, Institute of Electrical Automation and Institute of System Science and Control, which maintain good research partnership with many domestic and overseas enterprises and institutions. It meanwhile enjoys a strong faculty with 9 full-time professors (including 8 doctoral supervisors), and 13 associate professors who fully commit to teaching and research.

On the basis of large-scale systems theory, complex systems theory, nonlinear system theory, intelligent control theory, data mining and information fusion technology, and analysis, modeling, control and optimization of the integrated automation system for industrial processes, the department focuses its disciplinary development on such research directions as digital textile and equipment automation, intelligent robot systems, intelligent transportation and logistics information, automation systems, robot system, ERP and e-commerce system, integrated, intelligent and digital novel AC and DC drive system, and hydraulic system.

The department has, adhering to the university motto of “truth-seeking and innovation”, cultivated a large number of advanced professionals equipped with solid foundation, extensive knowledge, and strong adaptability. It puts equal emphasis on both foundation and application of academic programs, offering students solid basic training in areas of automation, electronic information, computer technology, systems analysis and integration, etc., and equipping students with basic theories and related knowledge of the relevant fields. The programs are remarkably characterized by a combination of high power and low power electrical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, software and hardware technology, apparatus and systems, information and systems, management science and engineering technology. Its graduates are highly reputable and well-accepted in job market. They are mostly engaged in scientific research, design and development, management decision-making, education, etc in many areas like automation, communications, information, computer, transportation, finance, electric power, aerospace, energy, and mechanical and electrical integration in various types of enterprises, research institutes, universities and government agencies.
