Brief Introduction:
Many countries around the world experience major shift in their energy landscape. Renewables are taking an increasing dominate position in the energy mix, consumers are transiting into responsive prosumers, and the passive distribution network becomes highly active. In response to this paradigm shift, the UK, one of the leaders in market design and operation, is pushing for major reforms in energy and retailer markets, reviewing transmission and distribution charging methodology, and developing local energy markets. The key aim is to promote the right economic conditions for consumers and utilities to profit in a low carbon system. China, after 20 years' central control, intends to fully open up the energy market to deliver choices and value to consumers whilst taking advantage of information and communication technologies. This workshop is timely for sharing our vision, ambition and resources to address this global challenge, providing enduring solutions to China, the UK, US and beyond.
