Founded in 1920, the Department of Electrical Engineering in
The Electrical Engineering faculty has enjoyed a long history of reputation. There are 22 full-time professors, including 1 Changjiang professor appointed by the Ministry of Education, 1 Guangbiao professor appointed by the university, and 3 professors who joined the department from oversea institutions. The former president of
The department has a full-scale education system with two research programs: the power systems program and the electrical machines and devices program. Both programs offer BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. The department has several laboratories which serve as excellent hardware teaching tools: electrical machines and drives, power electronics and drive controls, power system dynamics, DSP and devices, power system protection.
From teaching perspective, the department seeks the solidness and openness of course design, offering students essential education in electrical engineering, electronics, information, control, computer technology, and giving students great opportunity to grasp the basic theories and related knowledge in engineering, economics, and management science. The department provides education in areas covering high power and low power electrical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, software and hardware technology, apparatus and systems, information and energy, management and engineering science. The graduates of the department occupy capacities in electrical engineering, power engineering, electronics engineering, communication, computer application, transportation, aerospace, and energy industry. The graduates of the department are highly reputable and are well-accepted in job market. The department has enjoyed a high graduate-demand ratio of 1:10 for years.
The department, which consists of four research institutes including electrical machines and control, aerospace electrical devices and micro motors, power system automation, power economics and information, conducts joint research with many domestic and oversea enterprises and institutions. From scientific research perspective, the department spends a great deal of efforts in both fundament and applied research, received a large volume of grants from National Science Foundation, 863 Research Program, 973 Research Program, and enterprises, with total research grants approaching 10 million RMB as of 2005. This is within the top level among other research universities in
