The history of Power Electronics Research Institute (PERI) of Zhejiang University can be traced back to early 1960, when it developed the first 100kW thyrister-based inverter for induction heating in China. Over a period of more than 40 years, with the persistent effort of generations of researchers, it has become one of the top research institutes on power electronics in China. PERI now owns the National Key Laboratory of Power Electronics and the National Engineering Research Center of Applied Power Electronics, the only such government-established center in a Chinese university.
PERI owns a group of diligent, active and talented researchers with 26 staff members and more than 100 graduate students who study towards M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees. One of our staff is a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and another two are IEEE Fellows. From 1999 on, the Institute obtained about 10 prizes of science and technology honored at the national level. The Institute successfully completed hundreds of research projects funded by the government and the industry. Hundreds of patents and papers have been filed and issued, or have been published in prestigious academic journals. Members of the institute have also published more than 10 books in the areas of power electric circuit, basic of power electronic technology, medium-frequency induction heating, power electronic devices, signal transformation and so on.
Proud graduates of PERI are well-received by both the industry and academics in the country and abroad. Currently about 40 MSc and 20 PhD students in the institute are granted degrees each year and it has become one of the influential teaching and research institute of power electronics.
