Delegates from University of Houston Visited CEE

Prof Metin Akay, the founding chair of of the new Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Houston, visited EE College this Monday afternoon on Dec 16 to seek the possibility of cooperation between the two sides. Prof Shen Jianxin, the assistant dean of the College, met with Prof Akay and his two colleagues.

Prof Shen Jianxin was making overall introduction of the EE College to the delegates from UH.

The overall introduction of the EE College and Biomedical Engineering Department of UH were first presented, which was followed by a heated discussion on the possibility concerning research collaboration and student joint training programs between the two sides. After the meeting, Professor Akay visited labs to the interest of his research area, and enjoyed a good communication with graduate students there.

The University of Houston (UH) is a state research university. Founded in 1927, it is Texas's third-largest university, with its campus spanning 667 acres in southeast Houston. The Carnegie Foundation classifies UH as a Tier One research university. The U.S. News & World Report ranks the university No. 190 in its National University Rankings, and No. 108 among top public universities. The university offers over 300 degree programs through its 12 academic colleges on campus—including programs leading to professional degrees in law, optometry, and pharmacy. Interdisciplinary research includes superconductivity, space commercialization and exploration, biomedical sciences and engineering, energy and natural resources, and artificial intelligence.
