2015 UHV Scholarship awarding ceremony held

2015 Ultra-high Voltage (UHV) Scholarship awarding ceremony was held at Zhejiang University on Oct 16 this Friday. A total of 10 ZJU students won the honor of the scholarship, with other 170 EE undergraduate awardees nationwide from 20 universities including ZJU, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, South China University of Technology, and Xi'an Jiao Tong University.

Under the advocation of Mr Liu Zhenya, president of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), UHV Scholarship was established in 2014, intended to annually award outstanding undergraduates for their academic and research performance. As an advanced, secure, efficient and green power transmission technique, UHV is a major world-leading achievement of independent innovation, made and led by China. Prof Song Yonghua, executve vice president of Zhejiang University, addressed in speech that the founding of the Scholarship is prospective in encouraging more outstanding university undergraduates to devote themselves to the development of UHV and the power industry. The Scholarship offered electric power majors a new dream and a new opportunity for development, according to Prof Song.

Mr Wang Yimin, chief information officer of SGCC, delivered after the ceremony a lecture on the topic of global energy internet. He stressed it was important to build up the concept of global energy internet, and he then drew up a blue print on its strategic outline. He went further in full interpretation of what kind of network it would possibly be, and why and how to construct such network. His lecture showed a prospect for ZJU students that clean energy would contribute to a brighter future, relying on gradually developed UHV, great breakthrough of energy internet technology, and faster promotion of UHV worldwide.
