Former IEEE Power Electronics Society President Dr Don Tan Visited EE College

Dr. Don Tan, the former president of IEEE Power Electronics Society visited EE College of Zhejiang University this Monday on October 30, 2017. He was also a member of IEEE Board, the IEEE Fellow, and the founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE).

He delivered a lecture - The Utility Case for Microgrids - to EE students at the invitation of research group of Power Electronics from EE College. The talk was chaired by Prof LI Wuhua. Prof XU Dehong, Prof ZHANG Junming, Prof XIANG Ji and Prof XIN Huanhai also attended the lecture.

Dr Tan started his talk with the development of renewable resources and the application prospect. He introduced the concept of microgrid, discussed the changes of microgrid definition and the composition of microgrid, and summarized the development and expertise of microgrid, microgrid management strategies and market implications. Dr Tan also rationally analyzed the obstacles to the development of the micro-grid and proposed the technical and market-related difficulties. After introducing the basic structure of the micro-grid, Dr Tan looked forward to the advanced control strategy of the microgrid. These forward-looking perspectives and technologies have deeply inspired the interest of participating teachers and students.
