The International workshop on smart power and energy systems was held at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on May 22, 2018. Many experts, professors and companies have conducted in discussions on the subject of “future development of smart grid and energy system”. Prof. Wen Fushuan, Associate Prof. Lin Zhenzhi and six students from the EE College of Zhejiang University have participated in the workshop. As an invited guest speaker, Prof. Wen delivered a speech entitled “flexible ramping products in power systems and electricity markets” in the workshop.
Firstly, prof. Wen introduced flexible ramping product (FRP) with the focuses on basic concepts, main characteristics, pricing mechanism and clearing models, and comparisons with the existing ancillary services are made as well. He also pointed out that battery energy storage (BES) can be used to provide FRPs owing to its good controllability and fast responsive characteristics. The modes and strategies for BES aggregators to participate in theelectricity markets are then addressed in order to address the issue of ramping capability shortage in real-time dispatch.
During the Q&A session, many experts and scholars warmly discussed with prof. Wen about issues related to the FRP in the electricity market environment. This international workshop promoted academic exchanges between Zhejiang University and universities in Singapore.
