On the morning of October 24th, an awarding ceremony of Guest Professor of Zhejiang University to Professor Ferreira Jan Abrahamwas held at Room 405, No. 2 Teaching Building, Yuquan Campus. Present at the ceremony were Prof. SHEN Jianxin, the vice dean of the EE College, and some students and faculty from EE College. Professor XU Dehong chaired the ceremony.
XU introduced the experiences, main achievements and research directions of Prof. Abraham and then expressed his wishes," Since you are the director of China Research Institute of Delft University of Technology, so I hope through this platform, we can further cooperation between Zhejiang University and Delft University of Technology."
Prof. SHEN warmly welcomed Prof.Ferreira and hoped to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides and improve the development of related disciplines to a new level.
“It’s a big honor. I believe we can do great things together.” Prof.Ferreira expressed his thanks and appreciation.
SHEN presented Prof. Abraham with an appointment certificate and put on a university badge for him.
Professor Ferreira delivered a report entitled “Pushing the limits of electronic and electromagnetic power conversion”. In this report, he gave an overview of projects that attempted to challenge the limits that physics and technology impose on power conversion. It includes research in power electronics and electrical machines during last 20 years addressing the following questions: How can the power density be increased of electronic converters? How can the methods and technologies to construct power electronics be improved? Can filters and resonant tanks be integrated into a single component? How can a torque density be increased in slow electrical machines? How can speed related problems be overcome in high power density electrical machines? The teachers and students listened carefully to the report. Everyone actively participated in the discussion session.
In the afternoon, HU Changsheng and LOU Zhengli, teachers from EE College accompanied Prof. Ferreira to visit the Basic Teaching Laboratory and related laboratories of Power Electronics Discipline of the EE College, and exchanged ideas with the relevant teachers on the training of students.
