On the morning of November1st this Thursday at Yuquan Campus, Zhejiang University, IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter (ZJU IEEE IAS SBC) invited Prof. Johan to deliver an academic presentation. Prof. Shen, Prof. Huang, Dr. Wang and students from EE College attended the lecture.

The lecture contained of some main aspects of the realization of model-order reduction(MOR) methods. Prof. Johan believes that reduction of the calculation time, without or with little loss of accuracy, has always been and will always be pursued. So-called model-order reductioncan mean very different things, from mathematical black-box or grey-box approaches involving matrix-level operations, down to simple engineering and physics-based pragmatism. Prof. Johan illustrated this topic with permanent-magnet synchronous machines and focused on eddy-current and saturation effects. Finally, two kinds open-source software related to finite-element analysis were introduced in detail.

After the lecture, Prof. Johanshared exchanged ideas with students on related issues, which mainly focused on open software he mentioned and the balance between time-cost and calculation accuracy. He welcomed further communication from students of the EE college.
