On November 9th, Prof. Hirofumi Akagi, Distinguished Professor in the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Janpan, was invited to give an academic report entitled “Applications of Multilevel Converters to Grid Connections and Motor Drives” at Room 201, Engineering Building, Yuquan Campus. Prof. XU Dehong chaired the conference.

In the report, Prof. Hirofumi Akagi shared with members of faculty and students the cascaded multilevel converters and modular multilevel converters, or more strictly, modular multilevel cascade converters in a broad sense. Special attention is paid to circuit topology and control strategy, along with their applications to grid connections and motor drive systems. He also presented three downscaled motor drive systems using two kinds of modular multilevel cascade converters. After the report, the faculty and students presented actively interacted with Prof. Hirofumi Akagi on related topics.

After the conference, HU Changsheng, teacher from EE College accompanied Prof. Hirofumi Akagi to visit related laboratories of the EE College, and exchanged ideas with the relevant teachers and students.
