The EE College wins in the 4th National College of Engineering Application Technology Teachers Competition

The 4th National College of Engineering Application Technology Teachers Competition was held on November 22, 2018 at Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University. Six teachers from College of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University have won six national prizes including two first prizes, a second prize and three third prizes. The National College of Engineering Application Technology Teachers Competition aims at  improving the engineering practice ability, enhancing engineering practice experience, adhering to the application direction of engineering technology, and integrating the training requirements of outstanding engineers and applied technology talents.

Sponsored by the China Association of Higher Education, jointly hosted by Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Zhejiang Tianhuang Technology Industrial Co., Ltd., the 4th National College of Engineering Application Technology Teachers Competition attracted more than 200 teachers from 100 universities, such as Harbin Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University and North China Electric Power University and so on. The competition was divided into two stages, the preliminary stage and the final stage. After the preliminary competition, 153 teachers successfully entered the finals. In the final stage, the expert committee, composed of 10 academicians including the academician WU Cheng and SUN Youxian, gave professional guidance and comment on the competition. The on-site referees and review experts were all senior experts from domestic universities and research institutes.

With the support from Undergraduate College of Zhejiang University and College of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University, six teachers from College of Electrical Engineering have been organized to participate in the competition and won the National Prizes. Among them, ZHANG Jianliang and ZHAO Jianyong won the National First Prize in the field of "Intelligent Distribution Power System Technology" and "Power Electronics and Speed Control Technology" respectively. WU Min won the National Second Prize in the field of “Power Electronics and Speed Control Technology”. LU Lingxia, JI Ruisong and WANG Xiaofei won the National Third Prize in the field of “Electronic Technology Innovation Design and Application”, “Internet of Things Technology” and "Intelligent Power Distribution Technology" respectively. All the 6 teachers have received high recognition and praise from experts because of their performance in engineering practice and innovation quality. And Zhejiang University also won the Outstanding Organization Award for the emphasis on teacher quality development and participating organizations.

Zhejiang University has always paid great attention to the reform and development of professional engineering practice and innovative teaching. The College of Electrical Engineering has always placed emphasis on the level of professional skills of education staff and the education in practical engineering competencies. The college and the Professional Experimental Teaching Center have organized a variety of activities in recent years, such as Exchange of Teaching Skills with four renowned universities in electrical engineering (e.g., Tsinghua University), Vocational Training of Youth Laboratory Staff, and on-site visit to the China International Industry Fair. Furthermore, the college and the Professional Experimental Teaching Center encourage youth laboratory staff to attend various practical teaching contests and broaden their minds, thereby enhancing the quality of professional education and the level of practical teaching.

Through this competition, the engineering practice ability and engineering innovation literacy of young teachers have been effectively trained and promoted, which was also conducive to the promotion of students' manipulative ability and practical ability from a higher level. Moreover, the competition broadens the perspectives of teachers in the College of Electrical Engineering in the reform of professional engineering practice and experimental teaching, and this competition also has clarified the direction for the construction of the teaching staff needed to cultivate innovative talents, and provided strong support for the “Double First-Class” construction of Zhejiang University.
