From July 21st to July 25th in 2021, the College of Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University successfully held “Zhejiang University-University of Southampton Energy Cyber-Physical System Intelligence and Security International Workshop”. It is one of the projects in “The Sixth Zhejiang University Graduate International Workshop” and has been funded by Graduate School of Zhejiang University. The workshop conducts online academic speeches in the key areas of Energy Security under the guidance of a first-class tutor team from Zhejiang University and University of Southampton. The workshop is a science and education event which brings together scholars to exchange ideas and cutting-edge research, provides participates with an international, innovative and open academic exchange and scientific research cooperation platform, and nurture talents with a global outlook.
“This workshop is based on the scientific research cooperation of the China-U.K. International Joint Laboratory of Cyber-Physical System Intelligence and Security, and aims to gather high-end intellectual resources, build an academic exchange platform, and help graduate students cultivate international vision, and this is also good opportunity to promote the development of Zhejiang University and the University of Southampton Substantive cooperation.” On July 21st, Professor Qiang Yang, the Deputy Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, and the Chinese Director of the China-U.K. International Joint Laboratory of Cyber-Physical System Intelligence and Security, delivered an opening speech and introduced the workshop.
In the invited report session, Prof. Qiang Yang, Prof. Xiangrong Chen and Dr. Zhiyi Li from Zhejiang University, Prof. Shiyan Hu, Dr. Leonardo Aniello, Dr. Erisa Karafili from University of Southampton gave academic speeches in the key areas of Energy Security from different perspectives.
In the student report session, 12 graduate students respectively reported on their academic research results, and more than 40 graduate students listened to the report and participated in the discussion and shared their ideas.
Muhammad Awais, a PhD student of the College of Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University has participated in this workshop and given a report in the student report session. He expressed his feeling,“It’s an extremely helpful and informative International Workshop. All the things were well organized and provided good opportunity to learn from. The workshop provided an excellent forum to present results, advances and discussions among students from different research backgrounds, and share ideas, knowledge and expertise on Electrical Engineering. With this kind of mutual workshops between two world top ranked universities, the tradition will meet the challenges of the twenty-first century such as HVDC transmission, integration of renewable energies, smartening and security of power networks, and distributed generations, etc. This workshop was proved to be a very good platform for me to evaluate my research and presentation skills. I would love to participate in such joint workshops at Zhejiang University in conjunction with other world-class universities in future.”
